Biography
Sherrill J. Jones is a graduate of the University of Maryland, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiological Science, with an emphasis in Sports Medicine and Athletic Training. She has 10 years experience working in healthcare as an Athletic Trainer, and Outpatient Physical Therapy Office Manager.
Sherrill has enjoyed diverse careers including owner/manager of a health club; an independent manufacturers' sales representative (covering a four-state territory); a chef at a golf course; office manager of a large interior design firm; customer service representative for an import/export company; infant clothing designer & manufacturer; and continues as a fashion jewelry designer & manufacturer.
For 7 years, Sherrill coordinated the before/after and summer school programs at Alicia Sanchez Elementary School, in Lafayette, CO. This program was funded through a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant, which she helped write. Sherrill left Sanchez to pursue other challenges, but has continued to substitute teach when she can, in Boulder Valley Schools... teaching K-12. Currently, Sherrill is also working evenings as a private tutor for TutorDoctor - she is pleased to be able to watch the progress of the students she is tutoring.
Sherrill also finds time in her busy schedule to volunteer... With the wonderful organization - Birthday Smiles, whose mission it is to provide meaningful celebrations that recognize the importance of birthdays for children living in the homeless community of Denver, reinforcing the need for children to feel special and celebrated regardless of their circumstances. Through the years, Sherrill has honed her skills through her work experiences and through continuing education. Sherrill loves the challenge of learning, and is constantly taking courses to keep her up to date on developments in computer applications.
Each career and personal change has added new elements to Sherrill's life skills, and ultimately to her work skills. Making her a "Jill of all trades... and Master of most."
For a number of years Sherrill opened her home to students and staff of the international organization, Up with People. She hosted over 30 young people from nine countries, during the "Summer and Winter Stagings." Currently Up with People is back on the road. Please check out their website at www.upwithpeople.org This organization travels all over the world - so if you have a chance to catch a perfomance or see them at an event... it is well worth it!! They always need local host families too!
